Torrance is a Hub of the South Bay Craft Beer Scene

With six unique breweries and brewpubs – and more on their way – it comes as no surprise that Torrance is rapidly becoming known as a hub for Southern California’s craft beer scene.

Already Open

Strand Brewing Co. – the first production brewery in Torrance – is now officially open for business at its new 36,000-square-foot facility! In addition to an expanded tasting room with a 12-foot-long bar and communal seating, the new location on Dominguez Street features an outdoor area where visitors can enjoy private events and food trucks.

Owners Bob and Laurie Brandt are currently celebrating Red Car Brewery & Restaurant’s 15th year in business and welcome visitors with a diverse menu of appetizers, salads, pizzas and more. Bob – who is also the brewmaster – creates a variety of English ales including Pumpkin-Head Ale, a popular seasonal beer.

Monkish Brewing Co. offers an assortment of Belgian-style beers that reflect brewer Henry Nguyen’s past as a student of theology. Monkish beers are famous for their unique flavor and memorable names, such as Brown Habit and False Prophet.

Smog City Brewing Company is a family-run craft brewery serves up a fun experimental beer series along with a variety of popular standards. Owners Laurie and Jonathan Porter are committed to innovation, a quality reflected in both the names and flavors of their beers.

Absolution Brewing Company’s brews provide an ideal fusion of Old World styles and New World ingredients. At the on-site tasting room, visitors can enjoy an array of craft beers including Fallen Archangel and Possessed Porter.

The Dudes’ Brewing Company is committed to providing quality brews in a laid-back and fun atmosphere that reflects Southern California’s beach lifestyle. While tasting at The Dudes’, visitors can try bestsellers like Double Trunk or unique experimental beers such as Blood Orange Amber Ale.

Coming Soon:

HopSaint Brewing Company – owned by Steven Roberts – will join Torrance’s beer scene later this year along with its on-site restaurant. The brewpub will house a 10-barrel system, producing a selection of year-round and seasonal beers. Visitors will also be able to enjoy a variety of food items cooked by hearth, char grill and custom smoker.

Scholb Premium Ales – owned and operated by the Schulz and Kolb families – is expected to open as Torrance’s newest microbrewery by the end of the year. Keeping in mind the different palates of beer drinkers, Scholb will also serve lighter beers such as SoCal Blonde along with complex beers such as the Dark Void Imperial Stout.

Cosmic Ales – owned and operated by Christopher “Cosmo” Briles – is expected to open in Torrance early next year. Briles developed a passion for craft beer in college and is dedicated to handcrafting each beer he serves. He plans to offer popular favorites like Hell Hound Brown and Cosmonaut along with an expanded lineup upon opening.

With so many great breweries to try in Torrance, visitors are encouraged to set up a fun tour with a local company such as LA Beer Hop. For more information about planning your trip, visit DiscoverTorrance.com.
