Torrance Art Museum to Kick Off Summer Public Art Exhibition “Ultra!” July 17

20+ artworks in accessible locations throughout Torrance to be on display through August

TORRANCE, Calif., July 15, 2021 –

WHO: Torrance Art Museum (TAM), contemporary artists.

WHAT: “Ultra!” is TAM’s new public art exhibition featuring more than 20 artworks from the region’s contemporary artists in accessible locations throughout Torrance. Visitors and locals alike will find sculpture, installation, video projection and interactive experiences among other works, in various parks, storefronts, schools and government buildings, as well as at TAM, which will serve as the hub station for the exhibit. The exhibit is free to the public and a location map is available online or as a print handout at the museum. Visitors can tour the “Ultra!” exhibition sites by walking, driving or bus.

TAM will kick off the exhibit with a series of events starting with an unveiling of a new mural in front of the museum designed by Dutch artist Jan van der Ploeg, followed by a series of durational and interactive performance art by artists Yozmit, Zac Monday, Mary Anna Pomonis and Justin Stadel. Additionally, an engaging drive-through/walk-through sculpture park by High Beams Project will take place in the Cultural Arts Center parking lot.

“Ultra!” also includes more performances at the TAM throughout August featuring artists Ibuki Kuramochi and Beck + Col with Tetiana Sklyarova and Kayla Aguila.

Discover Torrance Celebrates Grand Opening of New California Welcome Center

Following the state’s reopening, center will promote travel, boosting local economy

TORRANCE, Calif., June 17, 2021 – Discover Torrance, in partnership with Visit California, the City of Torrance and the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce, today held the official grand opening ceremony of the newest California Welcome Center now located at the Del Amo Fashion Center in Torrance. The center aims to serve travelers from around the country and eventually internationally by providing information about Torrance, the South Bay region and California tourism.

“As California fully reopened this week, this grand opening was also a celebration for the return of travel. We’re honored to serve as tourism ambassadors not only for the City of Torrance but for the entire Golden State at our new California Welcome Center,” said Linda Amato, board chair of Discover Torrance. “We’re excited to connect with travelers again on their journeys and share some of the best-kept secrets in Southern California.”

To commence the grand opening of the 18th California Welcome Center in the state and the second in Los Angeles County, Discover Torrance hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony featuring guest speakers City of Torrance Mayor Patrick Furey, President and CEO of Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce Donna Duperron, legislative representatives, Del Amo Fashion Center representatives and more.

“Tourism is not only vital to our local economy but will be key in overall post-pandemic recovery efforts,” said City of Torrance Mayor Patrick Furey. “Travel spending supports local businesses, essential services and programs in our city. The California Welcome Center will help ensure local tourism continues to grow sustainably, as well as help locals and visitors create amazing memories and celebrate milestones on their next trip.”

Torrance’s Welcome Center provides travelers with information about attractions, lodging, local discounts, maps, brochures, insider tips and fun merchandise. The Welcome Center also features two kiosks that travelers can use to plan their trips and book accommodations.

“We’re thrilled to bring another California Welcome Center to travelers in Southern California,” said Amy Chambers, staff service manager for Visit California and manager of the California Welcome Center Committee. “The City of Torrance is well-crafted, diverse and has a relaxed yet innovative spirit. Torrance’s Welcome Center is located at the main level, entrance one of Del Amo Fashion Center (3525 W Carson St.), one of the largest malls in the U.S. Street signage has been installed to help motorists find this official, state-designated office, with additional freeway signage coming soon.

Torrance’s Welcome Center is open Monday through Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sunday from 12 to 6 p.m.

New California Welcome Center Opens in Torrance, Aims to Boost Local Tourism

Tourism resources now available at Del Amo Fashion Center

TORRANCE, Calif., April 1, 2021 – Discover Torrance in partnership with Visit California and the City of Torrance is pleased to announce the opening of a California Welcome Center in Torrance at Del Amo Fashion Center. The center will serve in-state travelers and, eventually, visitors from all over the world by providing information about Torrance, the South Bay region, and California tourism.
