Female Fighter Pilots and the Combat Exclusion Policy
FLY GIRLS REVOLT
Because of restrictions in public law, women were not permitted to serve in direct combat roles based on the Combat Exclusion Policy from 1948. This law was changed in 1993, and women’s inclusion in a variety of combat units has continued to expand from that time.
This is the story of the women who kicked the door open for others to follow in combat roles as well as the myriad of women who broke down other aviation barriers in the decades previous.
