On Saturday, March 19th, the Western Museum of Flight is hosting a Celebrity Lecture Series – From Atmosphere to Outer Space
It’s no secret that testing a new configuration of an airplane is a demanding and exacting process. First, it must be safe. Then, it must be reliable. Finally it must function in a way that ensures it will do the job it was intended to perform. All of these require a myriad of skills, knowledge, experience and above all cooperation of all members of a very large team. Now, imagine having to do the same thing for a spacecraft, with a whole new array of requirements and specialists. Then, with all of that accomplished, imagination putting the two together and make sure that the one carries the other high enough that it can successfully carry its payload into orbit. These are the tasks that fell to Kelly Latimer, Test Piot – Virgin Galactic, and Bryce Schaefer, Lead Flight Engineer – Virgin Orbit, and the large team of seasoned professionals at Virgin Orbit. You’re invited to hear this unique and fascinating story!
