SONA MIRZAEI & DENNIS JARVIS

Experience an intimate evening of art, dialogue, and discovery with Sona Mirzaei and Dennis Jarvis, moderated by Gallery Director Jonathan Anderson.  Each talk will be followed by an interactive Q&A session, offering attendees a chance to engage directly with the artists.

Sona’s Abstract Expressionist drip paintings capture the emotion and energy of color in motion — a lineage that traces back to Jackson Pollock, the pioneer who transformed gesture into language. Pollock’s radical method—pouring, flinging, and dripping paint directly onto canvas—invited the subconscious to speak, freeing art from its frame and form. Mirzaei continues that lineage, where intuition replaces structure, and each stroke becomes a pulse of emotion.

By contrast, Dennis Jarvis, legendary surfboard shaper and founder of Spyder Surf, brings a meditative precision to his craft. After shaping boards for over 40 years, Jarvis translates resin and sanding techniques into fine art. His works balance high-gloss and matte finishes, creating a yin-and-yang of texture that calms the viewer’s mind.  These pieces engage the senses — the reflective surfaces activating light and the matte grounding our gaze — offering a physical reminder that art, like the ocean, can regulate emotion and awaken serenity.
