Keeping Torrance Safe & Clean
Located along the coast in the heart of Southern California, Torrance is graced with 33 beautiful parks, an uncrowded beach, close proximity to LA attractions, one of the largest malls in America and much more. The Torrance Police Department does a lot to help keep visitors and residents safe, and the City of Torrance also has measures in place to maintain the city and keep it clean. Read on for more details on how you can safely get away to Torrance.
Torrance Police Department Safety Measures
“Public safety is our top priority,” asserts Chief Jay Hart. The Torrance Police Department has united with community partners who want to make Torrance a safe place for residents and visitors alike.

Del Amo Fashion Center Safety
In addition to patrolling the city, the Torrance Police Department maintains a dedicated presence at the Del Amo Fashion Center with clearly marked police vehicles and on-site police officers.
As of March 1, 2025, unaccompanied minors are not allowed in the Del Amo Fashion Center after 3 pm on Fridays and Saturdays under the Del Amo Fashion Center Youth Supervision Program. One adult may accompany up to four minors, but that adult is also responsible for the actions of the entire party. You will need to show a state-issued driver’s license or ID, a military ID, a school ID, or a passport with a photograph and date of birth to the Torrance Police Department and mall security when the age restriction is in place.
Real Time Response Center
The Torrance Police Department Real Time Response Center (RTRC) is a specialized unit that acts as a central hub for the community, gathering, analyzing and distributing relevant real-time data to first responders. It uses drones and other advanced technology to better protect and serve Torrance, while also improving the time it takes emergency personnel to respond.
Torrance Safety Alerts
Torrance residents and visitors are invited to sign up for TorranceAlerts to receive emergency notifications and other up-to-date info directly from the Torrance Police Department while you’re in Torrance. Community members are also invited to chat directly with Chief Jay Hart in monthly meetings called “CHAT” with the Chief.

When traveling to SoFi Stadium for a football game or concert, you can also use the local bus system, Torrance Transit, to arrive safely and avoid parking costs. Torrance Transit also offers a new micro transit-service called Connect Torrance that allows door to door transportation for just $5 per trip. It’s easy to use and trips are booked through their handy app.
Clean & Green Spaces
In addition to 33 parks in Torrance, the City of Torrance also recently completed median landscape improvements on Hawthorne Blvd., planting nearly 440 plants and trees along with a new irrigation system. They also have a program to clean up any graffiti in less than 24 hours from the time it is reported.
Many Torrance restaurants also participate in the Clean Bay Restaurant program, which is denoted as a decal in the window or can be found on our Torrance restaurant pages. That’s how you know the restaurant is choosing to go above and beyond the standards the law requires to prevent ocean pollution.
