Torrance Art Museum to Kick Off Summer Public Art Exhibition “Ultra!” July 17

20+ artworks in accessible locations throughout Torrance to be on display through August

TORRANCE, Calif., July 15, 2021

WHO: Torrance Art Museum (TAM), contemporary artists.

WHAT: “Ultra!” is TAM’s new public art exhibition featuring more than 20 artworks from the region’s contemporary artists in accessible locations throughout Torrance. Visitors and locals alike will find sculpture, installation, video projection and interactive experiences among other works, in various parks, storefronts, schools and government buildings, as well as at TAM, which will serve as the hub station for the exhibit. The exhibit is free to the public and a location map is available online or as a print handout at the museum. Visitors can tour the “Ultra!” exhibition sites by walking, driving or bus.

TAM will kick off the exhibit with a series of events starting with an unveiling of a new mural in front of the museum designed by Dutch artist Jan van der Ploeg, followed by a series of durational and interactive performance art by artists Yozmit, Zac Monday, Mary Anna Pomonis and Justin Stadel. Additionally, an engaging drive-through/walk-through sculpture park by High Beams Project will take place in the Cultural Arts Center parking lot.

“Ultra!” also includes more performances at the TAM throughout August featuring artists Ibuki Kuramochi and Beck + Col with Tetiana Sklyarova and Kayla Aguila.

WHEN:

  • “Ultra!” kick-off and museum reopening ceremony to take place July 17 at noon.
  • Drive-through/walk-through sculpture park at the Cultural Arts Center parking lot to take place July 17 from 12 – 3 p.m.
  • “Ultra!” will be open to the public through Aug. 28.
  • Additional special performances at the TAM to take place Aug. 21 at 3 p.m.
