Torrance on the Air

Calendar
04/19/26
Location
Torrance Historical Society & Museum
Address: 1345 Post Ave., Torrance, CA 90501

Two of the biggest events in Torrance, prior to World War II, were the discovery of oil in 1921 and the arrival of the CBS KNX Radio Tower in 1938.  KNX is one of the oldest stations in the United States, and its radio transmitter sits in the middle of Columbia Park (4045 190th St, Torrance, CA 90504) – placed there decades before Columbia even became a park.

On Sunday, Mike the Radio Man, will give the history of the tower, a local landmark, which serves as a functioning telecommunications center, and answer the question, “Why Torrance?!”

Time: 3:00 PM

This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
