The best beaches in Southern California might not be the most well-known, and Torrance Beach is definitely one of those. It’s pristine, uncrowded and quiet, which is a big part of why our 1.5-mile stretch of sand is our favorite. National Beach Day is August 30, and Torrance Beach is our pick for the perfect Southern California beach day.
Torrance Beach is one of the lesser-known beaches in the region and it’s our very own piece of blissful shore. You can come and take in your dose of Southern California sunshine without everybody taking up all the space around you.
Torrance Beach also has more than 300 parking spots, and there are tons of shops and restaurants close by. There are also public restrooms and outdoor showers for your use. It’s also fully accessible with beach wheelchairs and beach mats available on a first-come, first-served basis at any of the seven lifeguard stations.
Live your best beach life digging your toes in the sand and cooling off in the ocean. Soak in the warm Southern California sun by relaxing along the shore, playing volleyball, throwing a football and building your best sand castle. Then enjoy a swim in the water, scuba dive, fish, boogie board or surf. Whether you’re learning to surf or are a seasoned expert, we have all the resources to make your surfing experience the best it can be.
The Strand Bike Trail
Torrance Beach is the starting point of The Strand, a 22-mile bike path that runs all the way up to Will Rogers State Beach in Malibu. While dogs aren’t allowed on the beach, you can take them along this beautiful coastal path.
You’re welcome to bring your own bike or you can rent just about any kind of bike you can think of including e-bikes from spots like Torrance Bikes. You can pack some food to eat along the way or stop at any of several spots along the path to grab some food and take a break. It’s also paved which makes it wonderful for strollers, wheelchairs and scooters.
The Water
You’ll find that Torrance Beach is cleaner than more crowded beaches like Venice Beach or Huntington Beach. The water temperature is pretty moderate, too, ranging from 63° to 70° in the summer and 55° to 61° in the winter.
The Views
Go on and take it all in. Views are worth the pause and the beautiful 40-acre coastline of the Palos Verdes Peninsula is on full display from the shore. If you can make it for sunrise or sunset, it’ll be well worth it.
Come celebrate National Beach Day at Torrance Beach (and every day after that, of course). The beach is just the beginning of all there is to do here.
Torrance is also close to every major Los Angeles sports team, including basketball, baseball, football, hockey, and soccer. Plus, it has museums, a botanical garden and one of the largest malls in America, Del Amo Fashion Center, where you’ll find the California Welcome Center on Level 1. Stop by to get insider tips and plan a perfect getaway on their interactive kiosks. Those are just a handful of the Unbelievable, But True discoveries that await you in Torrance.
