Healthy Gets Fun in Torrance with These Wellness Activities
A new year usually brings with it a new dedication to health and fitness. This year also brings hope for brighter days, so it’s important to get outside, get some fresh air and get moving. Luckily, the annual temperature year-round in Torrance is 72 degrees, so it’s easy to find some rays. And with over 400 diverse eateries – with most also offering take-out – you can check ‘eating well’ off your resolutions list as well. So, here’s a few suggestions to help guide your wellness in the new year.
Torrance Beach
This uncrowded dream of surf and sand encompasses a 1.5 mile stretch of pristine coastline. It’s also the starting point for “The Strand,” SoCal’s coastal bike path that leads all the way to Will Rogers State Beach in Malibu. That’s a 44-mile-ride roundtrip and a great way to get those endorphins pumping! Or just do some sprints in the sand, play some volleyball or zone out by building a sandcastle or two.
Be One with Nature
According to research, “exposure to nature not only makes you feel better emotionally, it contributes to your physical wellbeing, reducing blood pressure, heart rate, muscle tension, and the production of stress hormones.” Conveniently, Torrance is home to the Madrona Marsh Preserve – one of the last remaining vernal wetlands in Southern California and a valuable habitat for birds, insects, frogs, reptiles and small mammals. Staff and volunteers offer nature walks, docent tours, bird watching and more. The South Coast Botanic Garden is also a great place to find some zen. The 87-acre site features 13 specialty gardens and a host of remarkable plant collections.
Eat Well
Although Torrance has plenty of options to indulge any craving, there’s a few places in particular for those looking to keep their resolutions. Let’s start with dessert first! The Sugar Free Shack is a yummy place to get your sweet fix without ruining your diet. Everything is sugar-free, and some options are even keto-friendly as well. For breakfast you can hit up the popular Beach Bowl Acai Café for organic gourmet oatmeal or a refreshing acai bowl, pitaya (dragon fruit) bowl, or the signature Rainforest Acai Smoothie. Items are topped with fresh fruit, organic hemp granola and honey. Then there’s Mama Says, a healthy Italian deli serving good-for-you, eco-friendly fast food that’s delicious and convenient. Choose from salad bowls, wraps, sandwiches and tasty dressings like apple ginger and yuzu.
Stay Awhile
Dreaming about escaping from your own four walls? When the time is right, Torrance is the perfect place to stay with an assortment of lodging options and styles to suit any budget.
