History of El Prado Park

El Prado Park is the City of Torrance’s first passive park (a park that emphasizes the natural beauty and resources of the area). It was designed in 1912 by the landscape architect of Old Downtown Torrance, Frederick Olmsted Jr. In 2012, ‘Centennial Plaza’ was created at the north end of the park to commemorate the City’s 100th anniversary. Over 850 local residents, businesses and organizations purchased commemorative bricks to create the plaza. The Centennial Plaza dedication was held September 16, 2012, with a parade and time capsule set to be opened during the bicentennial in 2112.
